Where To Go Metal Detecting

We’ve put together some popular places to use your metal detector. Do you have a favorite place that you would like to share with us? Leave a comment below.

Beaches are always good for detecting. Look for popular beaches where people go on holidays. You’ll find jewelry, coins, watches and maybe relics.

Parks are always good places. City parks, old ballfields, campgrounds, picnic places are all good places to find coins, jewelry, perhaps watches. Look under large trees where people sit in the shade and around bandstands.

Playgrounds and schools including city playgrounds, swings, old school playgrounds. Look for old trees, grassy areas or shady spots to find coins, watches, toys etc.

Backyards of old houses are always good. Find evidence of old paths or walkways to find coins, relics, jewelry etc.

Riverbanks around old marinas, fishing spots, old swimming holes or ferry launches are good for finding old coins, relics buttons, bullets etc.

Search woods around old paths, hiking trails, old wagon roads, overgrown foundations for coins, bottles, relics etc.

Churchyards are great as churches are often the oldest buildings in a town or village. People congregated in churchyards regularly so they are good places for finding old coins, relics and jewelry.

Research before you go to find the history of the area and where people congregated on holidays. Search your library or shops for old history books of the area, biographies or old maps. Ask the older people where they used to go, where the swimming holes were, where people used to picnic. Always make sure you have permission to be on the land and to dig holes.
