Shimano Fishing Reels Guide

By Janet Ashby

Tiagra reels

Shimano Tiagra reels are equipped with a hydrothermal drag system to automatically compensate for heat build up that may occur on a long run. When the fish fights for hours the heat buildup can change the settings leading to a broken line or not enough pressure being applied. The Tiagra eliminates the changes caused by the heat build up and keeps the drag settings constant. The Tiagra has a graphite washer that will always operate smoothly and is unaffected by salt water.
Torsa Reels

With nine interchangeable cams available for the Shimano Torsa reels you can be sure to find the ideal one for the situation or your fishing style. The Torsa has a Quick Change Drag Can system that allows the cams to be changed in seconds to suit the location without the need for tools. Cams suitable for casting lures and baits, for heavy weights when bottom fishing, for light line use when chasing records and one with heavy braid that is suitable for jigging.
Trinidad Reels

Shimano Trinidad Reels

Shimano Trinidad reels include a machines one piece aluminium frame with forged aluminium sideplates and spool. They feature a Super Stopper with an Assist Stopper, precision star drag, adjustable tension and a dartanium drag system.

Trinidad DC Reels

The Shimano Trinidad DC has a digitally controlled system for braking that uses electronic circuits to assess the speed of the spool at frequent intervals and then apply enough resistance automatically to prevent overunning.
Tyrnos Reels

For those anglers who desire a Tiagra performance without the hefty price tag the Shimano Tryron range of reels is ideal. The Tyrnos range is versatile and suitable for a wide range of locations and fishing styles.
Torium Reels

Ideal for use with braided lines the Shimano Torium range are a good choice for those on a budget.
Tekota Reels

Shimano Tekota are reputed to be the ideal choice for medium to heavy levelwind fishing at a reasonable cost. Packed with features usually found only in the more expensive reels the Tekota range is the best choice for those who do not want to purchase the more expensive reels. Versatile in many situations they are also widely used when using braided lines. The TEK800 has a good reputation for use as a deep water reel for braided lines.
TLD Reels

Shimano TLD reels have a reputation for having the most versatile lever drags. They are ideal for game fishing and casting. Able to be used from a boat or off rocks, in fact anywhere where fast, big fish are to be found.
TLD II Reels

This two speed drag range has been moderately redesigned and now uses a new composite material. Some cosmetic changes also give this traditional reel a more up to date look.
Charter Special Reels

Named for their ability to stand up to the toughest test in fishing, the Charter Special reels are tough and long lasting. With a huge heavy duty level wind mechanism that evenly spreads out the line across the aluminum spool and will not jam they are able to cope with experienced and novice fishermen alike. made for long life and the heaviest use they certainly deserve their name.
